So what is your best advice for a dog that does not like to have his nails trimmed. I have a dog that will constantly bite and move and its very difficult to trim the nails.

Hi Michelle, I suggest you have someone help you hold the dog. if that doesn't work and there is a problem with the dew claw penetrating the skin, then get the vet to sedate the dog. Or, learn holding techniques. As a matter of fact I'll produce one within the week.

Michelle, if the dog is small enough, there is a sling device that lets the legs hang down while the dog is elevated in the sling and attached to the overhead bar on the grooming table. I had a particularly difficult yorkie that hated me anywhere near the feet. I made a makeshift sling out of an old sweater and it worked like a charm.

Hi Michele, I often work alone, so don't always have someone who can help me. I have a few dogs that have a tendency to nip either during nail clipping or grinding and I've had great success using a plastic head cone (the kind a vet uses to prevent a dog from licking a surgical site). Larger pet stores sell them, they are inexpensive, come in various sizes and I'll tell you, it's saved me being bit a number of times. I do like the previous suggestions about the sling for smaller breeds. I'd probably use both on a biter and wiggler!
